Alexander Warenberg (1998) was born in Voorburg, The Netherlands, into a family of professional musicians. He studied with Monique Bartels at the Conservatory in Amsterdam. In the summer of 2023, Alexander received his Master’s degree at the Kronberg Academy with Frans Helmerson.
Since September last year, he has been Artist in Residence at the Queen Elisabeth Music Chapel, where he is studying with Gary Hoffman and Jeroen Reuling.
In September 2024, Alexander was awarded third prize at the 73rd ARD Competition in Munich. For his performance in the finals of the Competition, he received a special prize of the Symphonieorchester des Bayerischen Rundfunks.
In 2016, Alexander won the first prize at the Cello Biënnale Competition in Amsterdam as well as the public award. He also won first prizes at the Antonio Janigro International Cello Competition, the Dutch Britten Cello Competition, the National Competition for Young Musicians, the Prinses Christina Concours, as well as the public award, and the Agustin Aponte International Music Competiton.
In 2021 Alexander received the Grachtenfestival Prize and the Elisabeth Everts Prize.
Alexander is active as a soloist and as a chamber music performer. He has played with several orchestras in the Netherlands and abroad. As a chamber musician, he performed with Janine Jansen, András Schiff, Menahem Pressler and Nobuko Imai.
He has also been an invited performer at the International Chamber Music Festival in Utrecht, Festspiele Mecklenburg-Vorpommern, the Grachtenfestival in Amsterdam, Festival Bad Ragaz in Switzerland, the Cello Biënnale, Rolandseck Festival, CelloFest Finland and took part in the Verbier Festival Academy.
Alexander plays a violoncello by Alessandro D’Espine, Turin 1832, formerly played by Paul Tortelier – a generous loan by a member of the Stretton Society.
